Let's take a step back

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
~Martin Luther King, Jr.

I realize that the killing of Osama bin Laden represents closure for many people and the successful completion of a difficult Special Ops mission, but his death will not be the end of Al Qaeda or terrorism. The celebration in front of the White House was a disgusting spectacle, mostly by local college students, whose lives will likely be no different now than before. As quoted above:

hate cannot drive out hate

look around and change is all there is to be found

Why is change so scary?
Aren't humans supposed to be adaptable?
If the ability to cope with changing circumstances needs to be continually refined, shouldn't we create such opportunities for ourselves?

How long should one walk into a wall before abandoning that route and finding another?

resolve

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/02/fashion/02love.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

"When life’s knocked us around. And our childhood myths reveal themselves to be just that. The truth feels like the biggest sucker-punch of them all: it’s not a spouse or land or a job or money that brings us happiness. Those achievements, those relationships, can enhance our happiness, yes, but happiness has to start from within. Relying on any other equation can be lethal."

Birth

Is there anything more amazing than growing another human inside of yourself? Perhaps only the ability to release this human from your body the way nature intended.

I have been fortunate enough to attend a series of natural childbirth classes as the designated birth coach for my cousin. While I am grossly under-qualified for this position, I have learned so much about pregnancy and birth. Previously this was a subject I was wholly disinterest in, and even a bit squeamish about. Today however, I am fascinated by the whole process and really looking forward to being present and an active part of the birth of Ester.

PS- I am also begining to feel extreamly ripped off by mother nature. That bitch.

simply the most beautiful song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqCbQDL_gPQ
I'll play your fav'rite song, darlin'.
We can rock it all night long, darlin'.
'Cause I've got love, darlin',
Love, sweet love, darlin'.
Mellow mood has got me,
So let the music rock me.

'Cause I've got love, darlin'.
Love, sweet love, darlin'.
Quiet as the night,
Please turn off your light.

I'll play your fav'rite song, darlin'.
We can rock it all night long, darlin'.

Strike the hammer while iron is hot.
Open up your heart.
Open up your heart.
Let love come running in, darlin',
Love, sweet love, darlin'.

Strike the hammer while iron is hot.
Open up your heart.
Open up your heart.
Let love come running in, darlin',
Love, sweet love, darlin'.

Mellow mood has got me, darlin'.
Let the music rock me, darlin'.
'Cause I got your love, darlin'.
Love, sweet love, darlin'.

Returning to Homeostasis

Siddhartha
...everything lied, stank of lies; they were all illusions of sense, happiness and beauty. The world tasted bitter. Life was pain.

The peace of an emptied heart.

Tao Te Ching
Recognize beauty and ugly is born. Recognize good and evil is born.

Conquering others takes force.
Conquering yourself is true strength

The most fruitful outcome
Does not depend on force,
But succeeds without arrogance
Without hostility
Without pride
Without resistance
Without violence.
{ how very aiki ; ) }

Calm the muddy water, it becomes clear.

Without fundamental trust there is no trust at all.

Be careful in valuing words.

My Sankyu Test

While this could have gone A LOT better, I am glad it is over with, and I learned so much while preparing. What came out during the actual test was just instinct. I was not able to apply any of the newer concepts or principals I learned while training, but hopefully I will get to the point where my instincts include the breadth of my understanding.

From the book, The Power of Giving:

"Many people grow up in difficult circumstances, and almost everyone at one time or another has suffered emotional wounds, dashed hopes, or the loss of love. All people are complicated, and as they try to make their way in the world, sometimes they offend you, hurt you, ignore you, or lack compassion for you. You have probably caused the same emotional pain to others, sometimes unintentionally, sometimes not. This is why giving the gifts of compassion, understanding, and unconditional love is so important. It helps break the negative cycle in relationships and leads to a revival of love and commitment because when people receive love, they learn to give love."

I actually read this on a friend's blog, but I want to be able to read it over and over again.
